The 12th Richmond Campers enjoy a Campfire at Camp McLean in Langley, BC
‘Scouting is ‘a game’. It’s a game designed primarily
to help young people develop into self-reliant, resourceful and responsible
adults, or ‘good citizens’. It’s not a game to be won
or lost and then forgotten. Instead it’s a game to learn and play
when young, and then apply through out an entire lifetime.

Come and
meet the 12th Richmond Scout Group at the Gilmore Park United Church,
located at the corner of No. 1 Road and Blundell in Richmond,
BC. Park in the ‘fish spots’ (over 100 spots) and come inside
to meet us. You’ll find us in the ‘activity room’,
on the first floor. Every Tuesday night, LEAP into the Cub Pack or JUMP
into the Scout Troop, Venturer Company or Rover Crew. Wednesday nights,
SWIM into the Beaver Colony. The 12th Richmond Beavers, Cubs, Scouts,
Venturers & Rovers participate in an active program.
Scouts

programs for boys and girls and youth. Over 75,000 young people enjoy
Scouts Canada's programs, which are provided by 23,000 caring and dedicated
volunteers. Scouts Canada is a non-profit organization (Charitable Registration

The
Scout Program - how it all began...
Lord Robert Baden-Powell "B-P" – Chief Scout of the World
The name of Baden-Powell is known and respected throughout the world as that of a man who in his 83 years led two separate and complete lives, one as a soldier fighting for his country, and the other as a worker for peace through the brotherhood of the Scout Movement.
Today's world wide brotherhood of Scouting came about because young people themselves decided they wanted it. The early life and military career of Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell, gave it impetus and direction.
The present day Scout Movement began accidentally, resulting from an
experimental camp for boys held in August 1907 on Brownsea Island, off
the south coast of England. Lord Robert Baden-Powell completely satisfied
with the success of the camp, he published a book based on his own adventurous
life in 1908 and called it Scouting for Boys. It was an instant best
seller and Scouting was formed from the hundreds of young boys who registered
into the program.
It became so popular, enrolment increased. B-P had to create a separate
program for youth aged 8 to 10 years, using Rudyard Kipling’s
‘Jungle Book’ and the Wolf Cub Packs were born. Likewise
for the youth aged 15-17, Venturers was the next program created, a
more challenging program. Rovers had to be created to accommodate the
Venturer who were almost 18 did not want to leave the program and an
even more challenging and interesting program was set in place. The
youngest section, Beavers, began in Winnipeg, Canada as parents noticed
their 5-7 year old children were as interested as their older siblings
in the program. Today Scoutsabout and Extreme Adventure add to Scouting,
offering 7 distinctive programs for youth around the world.
Scouts want to experience the adventurous life of the vagabond, pioneer and explorer - elements found in the nature of almost all young people. To active Scouts, Scouting means having fun and learning with their friends.
Today, more than 28 million youth and adults, boys and girls, take part in Scouting programs in 155 countries and territories worldwide.
